AJC expressed its sorrow over the death of a security guard shot down in an assault earlier today at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, apparently by a white supremacist. "This was a horrific attack on an institution at the heart of our nation's capital that stands witness to the inhumanity of Nazism," said David Harris. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the brave security guard, who was struck down while protecting this vital institution, its visitors and its staff." READ

President Obama's visit to Buchenwald underscored America's commitment to preserving the memory of the Holocaust, said AJC. In the presence of Holocaust survivors, including Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, President Obama declared that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should come to Buchenwald. "I have no patience for people who would deny history. The history of the Holocaust is not something speculative," Obama said. READ NEWS RELEASE

Bahraini Delegation Visits AJC
A high-level delegation from Bahrain's Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs, including two justices, came to AJC headquarters for a dialogue with AJC leaders as part of a visit to the U.S. organized by the State Department. The discussion focused on religious freedom and pluralism in the United States, and the need for mutual respect among faiths and nations in the Middle East. This was the second consecutive year that AJC, a frequent destination for State Department exchange groups from many countries, received a delegation from the ministry.
