UN Holocaust Victim Observance to recognize Chinese diplomat, feature Mayor elect Parker
The late Chinese diplomat Feng Shan Ho, will be recognized for his diplomatic rescue of Jews in Vienna during WWII, and Mayor-elect Annise Parker will participate in the AJC and Holocaust Museum Houston UN Holocaust Victim Observance on Wed., Jan. 27 at HMH. Ho, who disobeyed orders from the Chinese ambassador in Germany, issued visas to Shanghai to all requesting them, even to those wishing to travel elsewhere but needing a visa to leave Nazi Germany. The UN established the date of the observance for the international community.
AJC to present at Yom Limmud on Feb. 14
"Ethics and immigration reform" and "Iran and the Middle East" will be the focus of two separate AJC presentations during the community's BJE Yom Limmud, day of learning, on Feb. 14 at Congregtaion Beth Israel. The afternoon immigration reform discussion will feature Charles Foster, of FosterQuan, Stan Marek of MarekBrothers and AJC staff Barbara Shepard and Randy Czarlinsky. Randy will led the discussion on "Iran and the Middle East."
