Challenges to Global Security theme of Consular Corps luncheon
AJC's director of government and international affairs will  keynote AJC Houston's annual consular corps luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Long involved in government, politics and journalism at the national and local levels, Jason Isaacson has studied, written and worked as an advocate on U.S.-Israel relations, the search for Middle East peace, and a range of domestic and international issues.
The luncheon is also an opportunity for members of the Jewish community to interact with the diplomats over lunch. Reservations for the kosher style luncheon, at $50 per person, may be made by calling AJC, 713 439 1202.
In his current post, Isaacson is responsible for maintaining relations between AJC and the White House, Congress, federal agencies, foreign governments and their embassies in Washington, political parties, and other civic, religious and human relations groups in Washington. He oversees AJC's international offices and the agency's efforts to assure the welfare and security of Jews around the world.
He recently returned from Oman and North Africa and will be leading an AJC delegation to India this Spring.
Students, diplomats lay stones in HMH memorial garden
 AJC's third annual International Holocaust Observance culminated with members of the Houston Consular Corps and students from The Emery/Weiner School laying stones in the HMH's Eric Alexander Memorial Garden. The program, attended by more than  130 people, received coverage on FOX26 and KHOU TV. Participants at the observance at Holocaust Museum Houston were HMH chair Michael Goldberg, AJC Houston president Tracy Stein, Fred Zeidman, US Holocaust Memorial Council chair, dean of the consular co rps His Excellency Carlos Gonzalez Magallon, Chinese Consul General Gao Yanping, and co-chairs Iris Mushin and Helene Zadok. The observance was created by the UN specifically for Jan. 27, which this year is the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The program feature a tribute to Dr. Ho Feng-Shan, the Chinese Consul General in Vienna,  rescued Jews by issuing visas for Shanghai against his superiors' orders and St. John's Kantorei chamber choir. AJC is actively engaged in the domestic and international scene as a GLOBAL JEWISH ADVOCACY organization.
Members of the International Commission met after the International Holocaust Observance to discuss the consular corps luncheon. Participants included; Dena Palermo, Susan Altschuler, Deisi Blankfeld, Ellen Grabois, Ilene Kramer, Syma Levy, Tracy Stein, Jack Lascar, and Iris Mushin.
Deborah Kaplan, development chair, and Syma Levy are coordinating the parlor discussion outreach event that features Jason Isaacson.
AJC's Aaron Jacob and Martz Mucznik briefed Steve Brown, Jeremy Samuels, and Tracy Stein prior to the group's meeting this week with new Turkish Consul General Akil Oktem. Tracy, Steve, Richard Schechter and staff participated in the delegation visit.
Richard Shaw, vice president for AJC Houston domestic/Jewish affairs, has been appointed to AJC's national immigration task force. Tracy Stein has been nominated to be on AJC's Board of Governors.
Jack Lascar, Iris Mushin, Tracy Stein attended the 61st Republic of India celebration this week.
The governance committee, chaired by David Barish, met this week. Participants included Bobby Lapin and Martin Siegel.
