AJC Urges Scrutiny of Galloway Visit to United States
AJC expressed serious concern at the arrival in the United States of George Galloway, the recently-defeated British parliamentarian who has raised funds for Hamas, and supported Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations. He is slated to speak at events hosted by American Muslims for Palestine and the Muslim Legal Fund of America in a number of locations, beginning in northern California on May 16.

AJC Welcomes Israel Membership in OECD
AJCsaluted this week's Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) decision to invite Israel to become a member of the global organization. Estonia and Slovenia also were invited by the 31 OECD member states.  AJC Houston thanked consuls general from the United Kingdom and Japan during our visits this week for their countries support.  READ

May 17 AJC Houston Annual Meeting
Monday night, May 17 the Federal Reserve Bank Houston Branch will be the venue for AJC Houston's Israel: Shaping the Future discussion on Israeli technology being used in energy, medicine and hi tech.  Boeing, MD Anderson and Better Place representatives will discuss their specific endeavors.  The evening also features the presentation of the Schechter/Zeidman Jewish Teen Advocacy Award to Jody Aremband and the election of AJC Houston Region officers and board.
 
Reservations are closed and Federal Reserve Bank security is in effect for this event.

OUTREACH
 
AJC is actively engaged in the domestic and international scene as a GLOBAL JEWISH ADVOCACY organization. 
 
England's new coalition government, Iran, relations with Hezbollah, and British-Israel relations were the focus of a discussion with British Consul General Paul Lynch and Mitch Jeffrey, head of press and public affairs section, and an AJC Houston delegation this week.  Participants included: Nat Levy, Marc Sharpe, Mark Trachtenberg, Dena Palermo and staff.
 
Acknowledging Japan's heavy dependence on Arab oil, AJC delegation met with Consul General Tsutomu Osawa to discuss the need for Japan's strong diplomatic support at the UN and in its bilateral relationship with Iran.  The conversation focused on Japan's need for a stable Middle East.  Participants included: Jack Lascar, Ann Kasman, Dena Palermo and staff.
 
AJC Houston's Annual Meeting will be held on Monday evening, May 17 and features Israel: Shaping the Future and election of officers, board members, bylaws changes and the inaugural presentation of the Schechter/Zeidman Jewish Teen Advocacy Award. AJC Houston's Bridging America Project's Immigration Task Force met this week at AJC to review its Declaration of Principles and discuss strategy.  Participants included:  Stan Marek, Charles Foster, Bob Borochoff, Hamid Kantara, Steve Murdock, Martin Siegel, Richard Shaw, Commissioner Sylvia Garcia, Beto Cardenas, John Wilburn and Dan Pearles. 
 
Dina Siegel Vann briefed AJC Houston's Argentine delegation prior to its scheduled visit with the new Argentine Consul General Daniel Deodato.
