World Affairs Council forum July 13
Changing Mideast dynamics
AJC's director of the division on the Middle East and International Terrorism will address a World Affairs Council Houston/AJC forum on Tuesday evening, July 13 on the "Changing Middle East Dynamics. The director, Yehudit Barsky, is the author of AJC's Series on Terrorism, which includes reports on Al-Qa`ida, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad. The forum takes place at the Junior League. AJC's Bridging America Immigration Task Force
Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia hosted the AJC's Bridging America Task Force that included; Alan Bernstein, Randy Czarlinsky, Charles Foster, Carol Heard, Stephen Klineberg, Jorge Mancilla, Dawn Lin, Stan Marek, Richard Shaw, Barbara Shepard, Daniel Stoecker. The task force recommended looking at opportunities to present a forum focusing on the implications of no immigration reform and its impact on health, education, law enforcement and business.
AJC Applauds House, Senate Approval of New Iran Sanctions
AJC applauded yesterday's decision of the U.S. House and Senate to impose tough new sanctions on Iran. The sanctions will target foreign companies that conduct business with Iran's brutal Revolutionary Guard as well as those companies engaged with Tehran's energy industry.

OUTREACH
AJC is actively engaged in the domestic and international scene as a GLOBAL JEWISH ADVOCACY organization.
AJC's Bridging America Project immigration task force met this week to discuss initiatives. Task Force members Barbara Shepard, Randy Czarlinsky, Stan Marek, MarekBrothers, and Stephen Klineberg, Rice University met with the Center for Houston's Future to discuss options for engaging the community on the destructive effect of not fixing the immigration system.
Carol Heard and Randy Czarlinsky met with Mike Ballases, AJC's Institute of Human Relations 2011 honoree, and Stan Marek, dinner co chair, to discuss the January 9, 2011 evening.
Barbara Shepard and Mexican Consul Julian Escuita met to discuss the August 28-29 AJC Mexican American Emerging Leaders Seminar.
German Consul General Roland Hermann, Melanie and Todd Lowther, Jack Lascar and Randy Czarlinsky met to discuss the AJC and German "Central and Eastern European Emerging Leaders Seminar". Part of the delegation will visit Houston in November.
Richard Shaw, Barb Shepard and Randy Czarlinsky participated in the Greater Houston Partnership's Immirgation Task Force deliberations.
Emily Soloff, AJC associate director for interreligious affairs, Jack Lascar and staff discussed the upcoming Presbyterian USA General Assembly and the Assembly overtures concerning the Middle East. Barbara Shepard will represent AJC in Minnesota.
AJC Houston's board will participate in a briefing with Yehudit Barsky on the risks the Turkish Jewish community faces today on July 12.
