"First Tuesday"
Fall diplomatic discussions to focus on internal issues
AJC Houston's International Affairs Commission will host "First Tuesday" discussions with various members of Houston's diplomatic corps, the third largest in the U.S., beginning in October. The purpose of the discussions is have diplomats share perspectives on the domestic issues his/her country is facing. The discussions will be held on the first Tuesday of each month beginning in October with Mexican Consul General Norberto Terrazas Areola.
Barsky to present 3 briefings during Houston visit
"Increased risks to Jewish institutions", "Changing Dynamics in the Middle East" and "Turkey's Jewish community" will be the topics of three separate briefings to selected audiences during Yehudit Barsky's July 12-13 Houston visit. Barsky is AJC's director of the Division on Middle East and International Terrorism. The briefing on the "Changing Dynamics in the Middle East" is presented with the World Affairs Council Houston on Tuesday evening, July 13.
AJC Hails Presidential Signing of Iran Sanctions Legislation
AJC hailed President Obama's signing of the new sanctions bill which targets Iran's financial and energy sectors. AJC, which was a strong supporter of the legislation, was honored to be invited to the White House signing ceremony. READ
AJC Leadership delegation visits officials in Israel, Jordan, Italy
The 20-member delegation met with top Israeli and Jordanian officials, including Jordan's King Abdullah, Israeli President Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor, Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein, and Kadima leader Tzipi Livni.

AJC Welcomes Decision to Grant Asylum to Palestinian Who Aided Israel
AJC welcomed the decision of an immigration judge to grant Mosab Hassan Yousef, a Palestinian who worked with Israeli intelligence services, asylum in the United States, so long as he passes a routine background check. AJC had warned that he would be in grave danger if he was returned to the Middle East.

AJC denounced Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Minister Louis Farrakhan after it received a virulently anti-Semitic letter signed by Farrakhan along with two anti-Semitic books published by the NOI.

The Weimar City Council cancelled an upcoming meeting with a delegation from the sister city of Shiraz, in Iran, after the delegation's refusal to visit the memorial site of Buchenwald.

AJC is actively engaged in the domestic and international scene as a GLOBAL JEWISH ADVOCACY organization.
AJC Houston's Bridging America Project is moving forward to interview members from the health care, law enforcement, education and business industries and how they are affected by no action on immigration reform.
Jack Lascar, Nat Levy and Randy Czarlinsky met with Mexican Consul General Norberto Terrazas Arreola and Mexican Consul Julian Escutia to discuss Mexico' role and Middle East related votes on the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council.
Barbara Shepard, who will represent AJC in at next week's Presbyterian USA General Assembly, and Randy Czarlinsky met with Israel Consul General Asher Yarden to discuss the overtures concerning the Middle East.
AJC's director of the division on Middle East and International Terrorism, Yehudit Barsky, will brief local Jewish agency and synagogue pros on the increasing risks to Jewish institutions during her two day Houston visit on July 12-13.
