AJC Radio Message: The United States and Israel - A Commitment that Spans Generations
AJC Houston urges EU ensure adoption of the strongest possible sanctions
In the hope that Iran's leadership finally and fully understands the cost of its intransigence, AJC Houston is communicating with diplomats from European Union countries to adopt strong sanctions next week.
Last month, the European Council adopted a declaration expressing deep concerns over Iran's nuclear program and welcoming UN Security Council resolution 1929, which introduced new sanctions against that country.
According to the declaration, these measures should focus on: "the areas of trade, especially dual use goods and further restrictions on trade insurance; the financial sector, including freeze of additional Iranian banks and restrictions on banking and insurance; the Iranian transport sector, in particular the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line (IRISL) and its subsidiaries and air cargo; key sectors of the gas and oil industry with prohibition of new investment, technical assistance and transfers of technologies, equipment and services related to these areas, in particular related to refining, liquefaction and LNG technology; and new visa bans and asset freezes especially on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)."
The European Council is scheduled to meet again on July 26, with a view to adopting a binding resolution that would translate the general declaration of June 17 into specific measures that each EU member will be required to take.

AJC Houston to launch Esencia de Judaismo
AJC Houston's Interreligious/interethnic commission will begin a special pilot academic outreach to Latino evangelical pastors this fall. The object of this pioneering endeavor is to continue to develop our relationship with Latino Pastors and teach them about Judaism as a religion, culture and civilization. The curriculum covers three major areas:
1. Biblical Judaism/Ancient Israel
2. Rabbinic Judaism/Diaspora Jewry
3. Modern Jewish History/Philosophy & Zionism
The impact on the Jewish community is both qualitative and quantitative.Esencia de Judaísmo transforms misconceptions held by Jews and Latinos.  This strategic relationship provides invaluable opportunities to collaborate on various community projects. Increased Jewish literacy amongst Latinos fosters understanding and
positively change current negative stereotypes and misconceptions Latinos have towards Jews. In addition, this relationship will enable the Jewish community leaders to personally interact with Latinos in an educational setting and through equal partnership.
