Vice President:  Nat Levy
Chair:  Rabbi Steve Morgen
Indo-Jewish Chair: Steve Friedman
Latin American Jewry: Deisi Blankfeld

Fundamental to AJC's mission is the belief that the security and well-being of the Jewish community is connected to that of all groups in America. AJC Houston is involved in several dialogues and diplomatic efforts with other faith and ethnic groups.

To further the dialogue with various ethnic groups, AJC Houston:

  • Holds events 3-4 times per year with the Indo American PAC.
  • Organized its second Emerging Leaders Workshop for Mexican Americans in August 2009 and chaired by: Nat Levy, Mark Friedman, Jack Lascar and Mina Sklar.  The workshop was funded by Amegy Bank, AJC Belfer Center, the Feldman Foundation, the Mexican-Consulate in Houston, The workshop provided up and coming Latino leaders in Houston with key strategic tools that will allow them to engage in political advocacy and community organizing within the American society. These tools will help them to succeed as community leaders. Local experts known to both the Mexican Consulate and AJC – Houston Chapter, including Dina Siegel Vann, AJC Director of the Latino and Latin American Institute in Washington, D.C. and Ann Schaffer, AJC director of the Belfer Center for American Pluralism in New York City, helped to conduct the seminar and information sessions in the fields of advocacy, fundraising and media outreach.
  • The annual America’s Table Thanksgiving Breakfast, a celebration of diversity, was held on November 20, 2009 at the Marriott Houston Westchase in conjunction with an area Congressional office. Nearly 200 faith, ethnic, diplomatic and political leaders participated in AJC's America's Table program at the Marriott Westchase.  Saint John School's Kantorei lead by Scott Bonasso began the morning singing This Land is Your Land. Personal immigration stories from Pakistan and Taiwan were shared.  Congressmen Al Green provided remarks on the historic times with which we live.  AJC and Congressman Green initiated the project four years ago.  Congressman Green's foresight and financial support have enhanced the project since its local inception.  For more information on this event, please contact Barbara Shepard at shepardb@ajc.org
